Community Events

CAAM organizes recreational, social, and service activities for members and friends. These yearly activities include: Chinese New Year celebration, summer picnic, annual banquet, and sponsorship of a meal for the homeless at Dorothy Day Center (since 1992). Other activities have included fishing trips, sport tournaments (tennis, golf, basketball, ping-pong), family camps, and participation in the membership drive of Minnesota Public Radio.

To promote a better understanding of historical perspectives, CAAM also organizes citywide public education and commemorative events, and presents world renowned Chinese musicians at special concerts and recitals.

CAAM has participated in the annual Twin Cities Festival of Nations, Passage To China at Mall Of America, Dragon Festival at Phalen Park. to promote Chinese culture and raise funds.

Giving out merit and need scholarships for college and graduate students of Chinese descent is a time-honored tradition for CAAM. Through generous donations, the number and amount of scholarships have grown steadily.

Joyous Harmony Chorale is a component of CAAM that was formed in 1987. While not active at this time, the Chorale had as many as 40 singers with regular rehearsals and performances.

From very early on CAAM communicates with its members and friends through a regularly issued bilingual newsletter. The current format, News & Views (since March 1997), had a circulation of about 1000.
