1. Wishes for the Sky: April 25, 2010 Earth Day
2. 2010 Festival of Nations: April 29-May 2, 2010
3. 2010 Dragon Festival: July 10-11, 2010

1.. CAAM is happy to announce our sponsorship of a very exciting arts project: Wishes for the Sky. CAAM along with 20 other organizations, is a proud partner of Wishes for the Sky-Twin Cities' Earth Day arts experience on Harriet Island.

If you haven't heard about it yet, here's some information about this exciting and unique project. A nature-inspired day of wishing and promising, Wishes for the Sky is a contemporary art event that invites everyone to participate in a work of public art. It is created by St. Paul Artist-in-Residence Marcus Young, Shen Pei, and their team of collaborators.

We invite you and your family to:
* Play the wind chimes sculpture
* Create wishes in the wish-making pavilion
* Make "Promises to the Earth" to adopt sustainable practices
* And fly a kite to carry your wish to the sky.

This project needs our organization's help and participation. Here's what you can do:

1. Please mark your calendars and save the date! Your attendance is important to create the art work. We have a goal of flying 1000 kites that day!! If possible, we'll go as a group…times to be determined. We need you to make a wish on Earth Day.

2. The project needs to borrow your wind chimes. I know it may seem like an odd request, but it will be a wonderful sight to see everyone's wind chimes hanging together on the temporary sculpture, and it will create a joyful sound, a backdrop to the kite-flying. We will have a system to track and secure everyone's wind chimes and return them to you after the event. More information about this later, but please consider making art happen by loaning your wind chimes!

3. Wishes for the Sky needs volunteers to help and the following are some vital information about these volunteer opportunities:

Volunteers will be assigned on skill-based level, but they are also first-come first-served. If there is something that you feel particularly suited for, please let me know. In addition, if you have any physical restrictions (such as standing) please let me know that also.

Some things you need to know:
- Please sign up for at least a 2-2:15 hour shift. Most positions start at
10:30-10:4 am, some set-up positions start at 10 am. Most tasks will end at 5 or 6 pm, except dinner helpers, who will go until we are done, and last-minute clean-up and strike.
- We must be off the Island by 8:30 or 9 pm.
- You will need to show up at least 15 minutes early for your shift to check in and get last-minute instructions.
- Please try to attend a 1-hour orientation meeting on Sunday April 18 1-3:30p (2 one hour sessions) or Tuesday April 20 (2 one hour sessions 4p-7p)
- You will need to provide your own lunch and water. There will be tea,
chai, snacks and fruit available for purchase during the event.
- Please keep in mind that this is a zero-waste event. Please plan on taking home or recycling any water bottles, food containers, etc.
- There will be a dinner provided for all of the volunteers who wish to come at 6 pm on the Island.
- The event will be held rain or shine, so please dress for the weather -
most of you will be outside for some or all of your shift. Layers, sunscreen and/or rain gear.
- We will provide caps and/or t-shirts to identify you to visitors. They will be available for purchase if you wish to do so.

I would like to hear from you as soon as possible:

1. Do you have job that you would like or do you want to be assigned to one?

2. What times would you like to work?

3. Do you have any physical restrictions that we should know about?

4. Can you make the orientation meeting on Saturday?

5. Would you like to stay for the volunteer dinner?

2. Festival of Nation volunteers wanted: Festival of Nation is almost upon us and
once again, CAAM has been invited to participate. This is CAAM's only fundraising event every year and we need volunteers. Those of you who have volunteered in the past can attest to how much it is. There are 3 areas where we need to staff volunteers. To sign up please go to http://www.caam.org/modules/wfchannel/index.php?pagenum=13

Festival of Nations:
Cultural Exhibit
Bazaar
Cafe

Cultural Exhibit: the theme this year is Ethnic “Folklore – Heroes and Legends” . We will be given a space about 8 x 10 in which we will need to exhibit items to fit the theme. The booth needs to have 2-4 persons staffing it at all times. If you are passionate about Chinese culture, this is where you can inform and educate the public about Chinese culture. We are also looking for carpenters to help build a
doorway and Chinese style roof. Any carpenters out there who would like to help ??? Please contact

Cafe: we sell Chinese food and need large numbers of person (10-15 at all times) staffing especially during the day on Thursday and Friday when school groups descend upon us with hungry school children lining up in front of our booth 5-10 people deep. This is the most fun and rewarding area.

The times are

Thursday, April 29 8:45am-3:00pm
Friday, April 30 8:45am-10:00pm
Saturday, May 1 9:45am-10:00pm
Sunday, May 2 9:45am-6:00pm

On Thursday and Friday daytime, school children (middle to high school) come by the busloads. Many companies will credit their employees for volunteering their time and will not deduct it from sick or vacation. You may wish to inquire in your company if they have such a policy.

What you will get out of it:
- CAAM will provide admission privileges,
- you will have a chance to visit over 75 different cultural exhibit
- you will have a chance to watch ethnic dancing (virtually continuous program) (free)
- and taste different cuisines.
- Meet and make new friends, camaraderie, cultural exchanges, fun and laughters, etc.

Please help spread the word around and let us know whether you will be able to come and if so please go to http://www.caam.org/, under Community Service->Festival of Nations to register. Any questions please send email to .

7. Dragon Festival: That's right, Dragon Festival is July 10-11 2010 but we're already beginning to recruit our team - the CAAM Flying Dragons. Please contact team captain Kahing Li <>.
